Our practice was built by someone who dreaded going to the dentist
Amanda Chin, co-owner and general manager of Norwood Dental Centre, was an anxious dental patient who used to dread every single appointment. When her partner, Dr. William Chin, was working as an associate dentist, they kept having the same conversation.
What if a clinic started with the patient first, the human in the chair, instead of working backwards from a clinical checklist? That conversation became Norwood Dental Centre.
Meet the people behind Norwood Dental Centre
Dr. William Chin
Dentist & Co-Founder
William graduated from Case Western Reserve University with his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2012 and has been based in Alberta’s capital region for over a decade. He’s experienced in restorative, implant, and cosmetic dentistry, and he’s bilingual in English and Mandarin.
He loves getting to know his patients and pays close attention to the details. His easygoing manner tends to put people at ease quickly, even given the setting, which is kind of the whole point. Dr. Chin is a huge movie buff. Don’t get him started about superhero movies.
Amanda Chin
Co-Owner & General Manager
Amanda never thought she’d end up running a dental practice. She’s an anxious dental patient herself, and used to dread every appointment. But that history is exactly why she’s so committed to making Norwood feel different. She built the experience she always needed.
Amanda is a huge geek with more post-secondary degrees than her husband, Dr. William Chin. Outside the clinic she’s a foodie and loves being a mom to Timothy and Georgie, ages 7 and 4.
Four things we never compromise on
Human first care
You are a person, not a chart number. We ask what brings you in and how you're feeling, and you stay in control of the pace.
Comfort by design
Weighted blankets, fidgets, or warm towels: you choose what helps you relax. Nothing happens without an explanation first.
Built for real life hours
Open 7 days, including evenings and weekends, so you don't have to miss the game, a meeting, or family dinner to get there.
Personal connection
Your preferences, your sensory needs, what helps you stay calm, all on file, so for your next visit, nothing has to be repeated.
We got to Norwood Dental Centre… differently
The conversation
William and Amanda kept having the same conversation: what would dental care look like if it started with the patient’s comfort?
Alberta Avenue
Our first office opened on Alberta Avenue. A community-minded neighbourhood, built around what Amanda always wished dental care could be.
The dream location
Amanda and William purchased a piece of local commercial land in Edmonton. The vision is still just getting started, with more dental dreams to follow.
Inglewood
We went looking for equipment and came home with a whole new practice.
The next chapter
We’re building a permanent home for Norwood: part clinic, part community hub. Stay tuned!
Serious about your teeth. Never about ourselves.
More than 30 team members are ready to show you just how relaxing (and fun!) a dental appointment can be. We take dental care seriously; we just don’t take ourselves too seriously.
We show up because it matters
Health doesn’t happen in isolation. Our care team partners with local schools, daycares, and community groups to deliver oral health presentations and hand out dental gear.
When you choose Norwood Dental Centre, your care supports a clinic that puts time, money, and energy back into the people around you.
Where you'll find us
Patient appreciation events
We hold community karaoke jamborees, food tours, and chocolate tasting sessions. Our clinic wouldn’t exist without our patients and we believe in saying thank you.
Community events
You’re always invited to our farmer’s markets, community league events, and sport club socials. We love contributing to the community outside our four walls.
Open house celebrations
When we open the doors to a new location, the whole neighbourhood comes in: toys, treats, tours, and a chance to meet the team before you ever need an appointment.
Schools & daycares
Each year, more than 4,000 kids get to be involved in our oral health presentations and take home free “plaque attack” kits. For some kids, this is their first positive interaction with a health-care professional.
Year-round giving
We give back all year, through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer hours, whether anyone’s watching or not. If there’s a great community event to support, we’ll be there!
Planning an event, fundraiser, or classroom visit? We’d love to be part of it.
We'd love to meet you
We built the clinic we always wished existed. New patients are always welcome to come see what that means.
